Drink spiking in London has quadrupled over last five years
The number of drink spiking offenses in London has increased by over 300% from 2018 to 2022.
There were 2,066 drink spiking offenses in London in 2022 and 1,788 offenses so far in 2023, with the possibility of the final number being even higher.
Only 57 of the reported drink spiking offenses in 2023 led to criminal charges, indicating a need for more prosecutions. [ more ]
There has been a significant increase in the number of calls to the Met Police this year compared to last year and the previous three years.
If the trend continues, this year will have the highest number of calls to the Met Police since Sadiq Khan's election in 2016.
Shoplifting is a major contributor to the increase in calls, with criminals believing they can get away with it due to a lack of police presence. [ more ]
